The vineyard
Vi LOF comes from several sites selected from among the family plots. 70% comes from the "Cobos" vineyard in El Foco, with clay soil and a southern aspect, which gives a warm character, structure and fruit thanks to easy ripening. The remaining 30% comes from higher plots of clay and river stones, which bring freshness and balanced acidity.
Harvest and winemaking
The 100% Mencía grapes are harvested by hand in September, selected in the vineyard, in 20 kg crates so that whole bunches reach the winery.
The grapes from each plot are destemmed and vinified separately in tanks of up to 3,000 litres, with spontaneous fermentation using Mencía's own native yeasts. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine from each tank is aged separately for 12 months in French oak barrels, with several manual rackings that help aeration and natural clarification.
After 12 months, a selection of barrels is blended. The wine rests and settles by gravity for several weeks, with only mechanical filtering and fining before bottling, and the bottles then rest in racks so that the wine fully integrates.
Tasting notes
- Ruby red with violet rim.
- A very expressive Mencía with a lively nose and great aromatic potential: wild berries, raspberry and bramble.
- Velvety on the palate, with good acidity and an expressive tannic finish, vigorous and fruity. Harmonious overall, showing the strength and nobility of its varietal identity.
