Winery and vineyards
Valtuille de Abajo and Villalibre de la Jurisdicción.
The winery
The family winery is in the heart of Valtuille de Abajo, on the family property, restored after several years out of use. It has held a winemaking licence since 1976 and, despite the years of neglect, has always remained a winery.
The original concrete tanks have been replaced by seven stainless steel tanks of between 500 and 3,000 litres, where each plot is fermented separately, and 28 barrels for ageing the wines.
The winery also has an adjoining barrel room where the wine from the latest harvest is aged.
The vineyards
The family vineyards are mostly in Valtuille de Abajo, together with the recently recovered vineyards in Villalibre de la Jurisdicción.
Most of the ten hectares we own are old-vine Mencía, alongside other traditional, very minor varieties such as Garnacha Bouchet, Palomino and Doña Blanca, planted by our ancestors among vines that are almost all a century old.
Two hectares in Valtuille are more recent plantings: three quarters Chardonnay and one quarter 25-year-old Mencía.
In Villalibre, many of the abandoned vineyards have been recovered and grafted to Godello, and they are now the growing frontier of the project.
